Released in 2007, the film explored themes such as love, friendship and rivalry against the backdrop of a gully cricket.
The sequel will be produced by Prabhu’s Black Ticket Company, and will feature an ensemble cast of Jai, Shiva, Premgi Amaren, Aravind Akash, Nithin Satya, Varalakshmi and Vaibhav.
It is to be noted that Chennai 600028 is a 2007 Tamil sports comedy film written and directed by Venkat Prabhu.
The film is based on gully cricket played in India, with focus on various themes such as friendship and team rivalry in a suburb of Chennai. The film’s title is derived from the pincode for Raja Annamalaipuram, a suburb of Chennai, where the story takes place. The success of the film gained the relatively unknown actors — Jai, Premji Amaren , newcomers Vijayalakshmi, and the director Venkat Prabhu popularity. It was a refreshing. It would be interesting to see if the sequel can reprise the magic of the original.
